Class 5 smiling sun

--------------------

We had a great time making a class book about the circus. We all had our faces painted to look like clowns and we hope you like our picture.  photo of children with painted clown faces

This year we connected with a class in Australia and we made a quilt to send to them. Here is a picture of it. We each did a picture of a face with an expression and then traced it onto cotton fabric. Next, we did some sewing over the drawing to make the picture more interesting. After that, the pieces were sewn together and a backing fabric was put on it.

Here is a snapshot of part of our work in connection with our overseas friends in Australia and America

We learned where the different States were in Australia and we found out what the symbols on the National Flag were for. We know that the largest of the stars is called the Federation Star and that the other smaller stars represent the States.

We have learned a lot about Massachusetts. We know that some of its symbols are the Mayflower, the Chickadee and the Codfish. In our picture, you can see the National Flag, but if you look closer to the left you will see a smaller white flag with a blue and yellow crest. This is the stae flag of Massachusetts.

In our RE lessons we learned about God's creation of the world. We made some little reminders of the events and trimmed them with lacy doylies.

We have been reading a book called The Mitten, by Jan Brett, and we have done a lot of follow up work based on the book. We have written what it might have felt like in the mitten, from an animal's point of view, and we have designed our own mittens.

Some people had a go at following our instructions, describing a mitten, so that they tried to reproduce it. All the children in Class 6 tried to copy a mitten drawn by one of our children, and even the adults who tried it had some difficulty.

This is a picture of some of our work.

As one of our class trips, we visited Manchester City Football Club, in Maine Rd.

Out guides were called Bob and Matt and they showed us all around the stadium, the changing rooms, the player's tunnel, the press room and we went to the top of the Kippax. The picture shows us sitting on the front row of Main Stand, at the edge of the pitch.
