School Information

Gorton Brook is designated as a Primary School for pupils with Moderate Learning Difficulties aged 5 - 11yrs. The school was reorganised from a First School to a Primary School aged MLD school during April 1995.

The school provides full time education on a short term basis for pupils depending on their needs. Children are admitted at any time during their educational career, in the given age range, for Assessment (Education Act 1981) or on a full time basis if a Statement of Special Educational Needs has been written identifying the school as appropriate provision. One of the aims of the school is to integrate/re-integrate pupils into mainstream. There are usually approximately 100 pupils on roll.

There are 11 teachers including the Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher and two Heads of Department. They are assisted by 4 Nursery Nurses and 6 Special School Support Workers. Additionally, there are 6 Lunchtime Organisers including the Senior Lunchtime Organiser.

The National Curriculum is interpreted to meet the needs of the pupils. Teachers devise Individual Education Programmes based on assessed needs.
